Compassion Ministry

There are times in the life of the Christian when we need others to minister to us with the love of Christ, and there are times when we are called to minister to others, compelled by the love of Christ. There are aspects to compassion ministry at AHEFC that address both of these seasons of life. If one member of the body of Christ is hurting, the rest of the body can be an instrument of healing. There are many examples of this at AHEFC:

  • Benevolent Care

  • Care Ministry: Emergencies will arise at some point in our lives. The Care Team at AHEFC responds with meals, chores, and whatever else may be needed to help immediately.

  • Career Seekers: The loss of a job can also be a time when a hurting member of the body can be ministered to by others. Career Seekers, led by Jack Burgman, provides a network of career opportunities as well as assistance in the process, such as resume preparation.

  • Celebrate Recovery: Celebrate Recovery continues to be a community where we can share any hurt, habit, or hang-up in a safe environment and experience the healing power of Jesus Christ.

  • Clothing Ministry

  • Community Care

  • DivorceCare: We know that divorce happens, even though it is never intended, and while the effects can be devastating, healing is possible and God’s grace can be experienced when we are surrounded by faithful brothers and sisters in Christ who have had to walk the same walk as you.

  • GriefShare: When we are grieving the loss of a loved one, sharing our pain with others can help the healing process. This happens each week at Grief Share.

  • Stephen Ministers: Sometimes the need is to have just one person walk with you through a difficult time. Stephen ministers faithfully do this for many members of our family.

  • Timothy Ministry

There are times when we are called to minister to others, compelled by the love of Christ. You may feel led to volunteer with any of the ministries mentioned above.  There are also a number of ways to impact our community with the love of Christ. You will have the opportunity to participate in one of many service projects.  We work with ministry partners including: Lydia Home, Evangelical Child and Family Services, Journey from PADS to Hope, World Relief Emmaus Ministries, AHEFC Car Ministry, and Arlington Heights Senior Center.

These ministry partners impact our community in a variety of ways: providing safe families and homes for young children; ministering to the homeless in our community, helping refugees who need to relocate, reaching out to male prostitutes on the streets of Chicago, finding and fixing used cars to provide to needy individuals or families. Our service projects will range from raking leaves, to preparing meals, to fixing up facilities in disrepair, to providing a ride for a senior citizen.

Our Community & World Impact Projects include: Angel Tree, Journeys from PADS to Hope, Letter Advocacy Team, Meals on Wheels, Men's Service Team, Thanksgiving Dinner, Timothy Ministry, White Cross.

James challenges us: "Mercy triumphs over judgment! What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanies by action, is dead." Whether we need others to minister to us or whether we need to be ministering to others, I pray that the people of AHEFC will be relentless in their compassion.
